TOP TIP FOR THE DAY….

DON’T RELY ON THE SCALES TO TELL YOU WHETHER YOU ARE ON TRACK!!

Yes I know it is so hard, but there are so many reasons why measuring yourself is better than weighing yourself.

We have become slaves to what the number says on the scales and that actually doesn’t give you a fair representation of what is going on in your body. It is just a number

REASONS NOT TO RELY ON THE SCALES

1- Muscle weighs more than fat. So if you are exercising more and doing weights you will see less of a shift on that number on the scales…BUT you will have gained muscle which means you burn more calories. Also muscle takes up much less space than fat so you will look so much better

2- Fluid retention can cause a dramatic shift in the reading on the scales. Ladies think about the time you are due on your period. You can weight up to 7lbs more purely because of fluid retention. You can then get back on the scales a day or 2 later and be 7lbs lighter again, so this just shows that it is not accurate enough to rely on the scales.

3- It is no representation of overall healthy. You can have someone who is ‘skinny-fat’ meaning on the scales they may be a very low weight but they may have a lot of visceral fat stored around their organs which is far from healthy.

THINGS TO TRACK TO SEE IF YOU ARE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

1- Measure yourself. This is a MUCH better representation of whether you are moving in the right direction. As I said, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will see the inches shrinking even if the scales aren’t if you are increasing muscle mass

2- Track your body fat %. This can be costly as the scales which show body fat% aren’t particularly accurate. It is better to invest in a proper machine which has electrodes that you stick to different parts of your body. This gives a true reading

3- Through a good body fat% device you can also track fluid in the body and where it is. Is it in the cells or is it pooling between them which can cause puffiness. I know when I had this done it showed that I had a lot of fluid retention which is a classic symptom when you have an underactive thyroid. If you suffer with this, get the lymph system moving. It will help to drain excess fluid. The herbs dandelion and artichoke help with this as does vitamin B6. Moving your body also helps as does dry body brushing and hot and cold showers 🙂
